Why is America Falling?

"… Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and less you receive of her plagues."          Revelation 18:4

"And I will give power to my two witnesses…And their dead bodies will lie in the street…those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another…”          Revelation 11:3-10

I woke up this morning thinking about America and her peril.  The beast of Antichrist is raising its ugly head over our land.  Sin runs rampant.  Our president seeks to rule by fiat and our Congress does nothing to stop it.  Tyranny is waiting in the wings.

Never, when a nation falls as America is falling, can we Christians point to the heathen amongst us as the cause.  We Christians cannot stand and self-righteously point to the sins of unbelievers saying, “It's their fault that God is displeased with us.”  Sinners are going to sin!  It is foolishness for us to expect otherwise.  America is falling because the church – His people – is as full of unrighteousness as the sinful world we decry!

Look and see!  Pick a church, any church, and consider its congregation.  Our divorce rate is the same as our worldly counterparts.  Our families are just as dysfunctional.  Our young people live by the popular culture with all its vices, and our women let the popular fashion dictate their concept of modesty.  Christian businessmen treat their employees as mere "resources" and Christian employees do slovenly work, justifying themselves with complaints.  Half our pastors do not even believe in the Bible anymore.  The world worships Babylon and drinks of her pleasures – how is it that we Christians have joined them?  Look at us!  Has the faith of Christianity made a difference in how we live?  Do our lives reflect the power of God working in us?  No!  The voice of the church has grown silent.  Her good works are empty works – they have no power.  America is falling because those who should be her strength, holding her up, being her light, instead stand slack-handed and dull-eyed, staring at nothing.

Revelation 11 tells us of the two witnesses of the church who speak the truth.  Moses, the lawgiver, points to the righteousness that comes to us through Christ.  Elijah, the prophet of power, speaks of the transformation that happens when Christ enters your life.  In America, the two witnesses have grown silent.  They lie dead in our streets.  (Revelation 11:8)  Our pulpits speak in fearful whispers – whispers that tickle our ears.  And…the world of sin rejoices.  (Revelation 11:10)

That is why America is falling!

The Lord cries out to us,  "Come out of her, My people!"  Love Christ and live righteously!  It isn't hard!  He gave us His Spirit and wrote His law on our hearts.  Let yourself stand in contrast to the world.  Set aside compromise and follow your Lord with your whole heart.  Turn, church, from your wicked ways – and then watch God save our nation.

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves… And turn from their wicked ways…Then I will heal their land."

2 Chronicles 7:14
